Spiro Paule

Spiro began his career in the Financial Services industry working as an Adviser with Legal and General UK Financial Services Firm. After graduating with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from Monash University, Spiro also obtained a Diploma from the Australian Insurance Institute to further compliment his qualifications.

In 1984, Spiro interrupted his advisory career to pursue three years of corporate management experience with Aetna. He performed a number of state and regional management roles, preparing him for what would become a future managing people and businesses.

By 1987, Spiro had decided to resume his advisory career, going into business with brother Terry Paule. With a desire to provide their clients with an ‘Index of financial services under the one roof’, the Findex business was born. This vision would, in time, see all financial services procured in the one place to more efficiently help clients achieve their financial and lifestyle goals.

Tony Roussos

Tony began his financial services journey in the early nineties, joining Findex in a business traineeship role. To further develop his skills and build upon a Bachelor of Science from Monash University, Tony also obtained his Diploma of Financial Planning.

His passion for professional development has seen him take on roles in senior lecturing (for The Securities Institute, FPA), Committee Heads (FPA, Education Task Force) and Chairman (DFP 3 and 7).

As Tony progressed through the Findex business, he went on to complete a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), making him an important asset in the group’s growth by acquisition strategy.

Matt Games

Matt joined Findex in January 2008 as Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the financial management of the business. He also heavily involved in Findex’s merger and acquisition practices.

Prior to joining Findex, Matt worked with Macquarie Private Wealth as a specialist project manager, focusing on acquisition and new business opportunities. Preceding that, Matt spent 7 years with ING Australia, initially in its group finance area before moving on to specialise in the financial advisory field as Finance Manager for ING Advice, working with the RetireInvest, Tandem and Millennium 3 financial planning groups.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Macquarie University in Sydney and is also a Chartered Accountant. He is also a qualified ‘Black Belt’ in Six Sigma, a process improvement and quality management methodology used by many leading companies worldwide.

Thomas Paule

Thomas has a long-standing history with Findex, having served for almost 10 years. After graduating with a Bachelor of Business, Banking & Finance and a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Print Media, Thomas made the decision to pursue a career in the Financial Services industry.

With a bold vision to transform the traditional delivery of financial service offerings, Thomas believes that the better harnessing of technology can significantly enhance a business’ relationship with the market and prospective clients. As such, Thomas has been behind the creation of the Findex Digital division of the business, and its focus on producing products to improve both organisational efficiency and client experience.

Thomas was also pivotal in leading the development of the MOVO project — the first (and only) comprehensive, fully tailored and compliant Financial Advice delivered entirely online. Importantly, the MOVO project landed Findex a place on the BRW’s Top 50 Most Innovative Companies list at number twelve overall, and second in the Financial Services category.

Today, as Chief Marketing & Digital Officer, Thomas plays an integral role in building and expanding Findex’s Marketing and Digital capabilities, and integrating these functions into all facets of the business’ operations.

Kieran Canavan

Kieran began working in the financial services industry in 1992 as a Financial Adviser for premier clients of The Standard Bank. By 1997 he was heading up special projects within Standard Bank, specifically focused on mortgage securities.

In 1997 Kieran immigrated to Australia after been ‘head- hunted’ by a major international manufacturing, import and redistribution company based in Sweden; Poseidon AB. Kieran was tasked with starting up the new venture in Australia, Kieran took this company from start up through to eventual successful sale in 2002.

In late 2002 Kieran moved back into the Financial Services industry in the field of mortgage origination and setup and managed a boutique mortgage company, this company was acquired by Centric Wealth in late 2003.

Kieran joined Centric Wealth in 2003 in the role of Head of Lending, in 2009 Kieran become Head of Treasury Services and subsequently Head of Products and Services.

Kieran joined the Findex Group Management Team as a result of its 2014 acquisition. Kieran is now Chief Investment Officer for the Findex Group.

Nick Mylonas

Starting his career in Production Planning and Logistics for a national glass supplier, Nick was quick to demonstrate a unique ability for re-engineering processes. He also began designing solutions for production inefficiencies resulting in significant improvements to quality control and turnaround times. This positioned Nick well to join Findex in 1994 as a consultant to map and re-engineer the existing processes and build some efficiencies in the operational model of the organisation.

Nick was integral to the development of the current YGM system, which has enabled Findex to achieve the highest international quality service standard, ISO 9001. Nick attributes much of the YGM system’s success to the vision and commitment that the Findex management team continues to have for innovation and also to the culture of the staff throughout the organisation.

Michael Wilkins

Beginning his Financial Services career as a Principal of the Associated Planners Group, Michael developed a passion for building enduring client and business relationships. Placing a value on education, Michael holds a Diploma of Financial Planning and has a Masters of Business Administration (MBA).

As one of Findex’s early acquisitions, Michael has been responsible for building a strong and dynamic adviser force for the business.

With over 25 years industry experience, Michael specialises in all aspects of financial planning for individual and business clients and holds an Executive Director role on Findex’s Board.

phil mulvey

Phil Mulvey

After graduating as an accountant and attaining a Bachelor of Commerce from Otago University, Phil began his accountancy career in Dunedin, New Zealand. He then moved to London working for a major accounting firm for a few years, returning to New Zealand in 1987.

Phil’s experience includes both business advice and governance, particularly as a board member and adviser to a wide range of public companies and Local Authorities. He is an accredited member of the Institute of Directors of New Zealand and holds a Public Practice Certificate CAANZ.

Today, Phil is New Zealand’s Executive Managing Partner (EMP).

As EMP, Phil is responsible for shaping and delivering the strategic direction of the Region which spans multiple geographic locations across New Zealand. He does this through:

  • Leadership of the Managing Partners in the growth strategy for the business.
  • Providing leadership to staff in order to achieve the established business and operational goals.
  • Supporting succession and development of those on the Advisor Pathway.

Phil places high importance on building and maintaining strong relationships with his managers, teams and clients.

Peter Gardiner

As Executive Managing Partner – Specialist Services at Findex, Peter is focused on bringing together the deep, boutique-style expertise of the group’s specialist service lines. Peter further represents the brand across the Crowe Horwath internal network as International Liaison Partner, tapping into global market leads and methodologies.

Peter guides the Audit, Tax Advisory, Corporate Finance, Performance Consulting, Lending and Finance, General Insurance, Risk Insurance and Corporate Benefits departments through maximising use of the group’s industry-leading Family Office model. He does this with his goal to streamline internal process and improve client outcomes in mind.

Peter boasts over 30 years’ leadership experience across the financial planning, accounting and banking sectors. During this time, Peter has worked in Europe, Australia and Asia, from his own business to the ‘Big 4’.

Peter first joined Findex as Global Head of Business, his role to ensure that the group continued to modernise the way that the sector operated, too promoting transparency and creating value for its clients.

Peter holds that building relationships of trust, and the consistent delivery of value, are the key to building an extensive professional network of global business leaders and enjoying a fruitful career. When combined with his interest in the adoption of technology to deliver innovation, Peter is positioned to provide reliable, efficient and strategic business direction.

Outside Findex, Peter’s hobbies include scuba diving and rally car driving.

owen maher

Owen Maher

In his role as Executive Managing Partner – Specialist Services at Findex, Owen is charged with driving collaboration within the group’s industry-leading Family Office model.

Specialist Services encompasses Audit, Tax Advisory, Corporate Finance, Performance Consulting, Lending and Finance, General Insurance, Risk Insurance and Corporate Benefits. Cumulatively, these services lines represent 25% of the group’s revenue.

Beginning his financial services journey in 2008, Owen joined Credit Suisse and then KKR in its private equity investment team. In his six years at KKR, Owen focused on a range of investments in both Australia and New Zealand, one of which included Findex.

Owen joined Findex in 2015, serving as its Head of Strategic Projects, focussing on operational improvements and business growth initiatives, group wide. Among many successes, notably was the introduction and management of the Family Office model and an employee equity offering, both transformative to the business’ operations.

Owen holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from University of New South Wales, completing this with first class honours and the University Medal in Finance.

Outside Findex, his passions include most endurance sports, particularly running.

Paul Moodie

Managing Partner — Northern

Paul’s clients include both public and private sector entities, as well as not-for-profit organisations. He has in-depth experience across all areas of governance, business management and leadership, as well as sales and acquisitions. An expert trainer and highly respected business facilitator and coach, Paul is a certified trainer of Franklin Covey’s ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ and the de Bono Innovation Institute’s creative thinking skills. He is an independent Director on a number of boards and is a trustee of a number of charities. A clear thinker with a strong attention to detail, Paul is able to guide and support business owners and charities to achieve their goals.

Hayden Dillon

Managing Partner — Waikato

Hayden is the Managing Partner for Crowe Horwath Waikato. From a one person start-up business in 2013, to two locations and 31 staff, with local specialists in: Agribusiness, Bloodstock, Medium and Large Enterprises, Internal Assurance, Virtual Accounting, Personal Risk Management, Systems and Software, Tax, Banking and Treasury, and of course your traditional compliance work. Hayden’s background and experience provides him with a unique perspective in developing strategies, managing risk, and identifying new opportunities for companies.

David Shadwell

Managing Partner – Wellington and Hawke’s Bay

Dave has supported clients across a variety of sectors with assurance and advisory services. Originally from the UK, Dave has significant experience in the regulated financial services sector, not-for-profits and private businesses. As part of this experience, Dave has held several directorships in a number of regulated businesses, which has given him a unique commercial approach and real insight into best practice corporate governance.

Susan Schuler

Managing Partner — Nelson

Susan is the Managing Partner for Crowe Horwath Nelson, Richmond and Marlborough with a team of over 70 staff. She is a strong supporter of sustainable community growth and innovative business development. Susan’s background is in business management, American local politics, military support and small business ownership. Her change and engagement management experience means she can identify improvement opportunities that offer clients strong financial outcomes.

Matt Taylor

Managing Partner — Otago

Matthew is the Managing Partner at Crowe Horwath for the Southern Region including Otago and Canterbury. He has been extensively involved in a range of corporate divestitures and acquisitions in the construction, manufacturing, exporting and service industries. Matthew has helped manage companies in distress as well as those on a rapid growth plane, and at both a local and national level.

Duncan Fea

Managing Partner — Central Otago

Duncan the Managing Partner for the Central Otago region. He is the lead on corporate recovery and insolvency and has handled restructuring in the tourism, manufacturing, property, aquaculture, viticulture, agriculture and hospitality sectors. Duncan has a thorough understanding of business acquisitions and disposals, due diligence assignments, valuation assessments, business financing and taxation.

Neil McAra

Managing Partner – South

Neil is the Managing Partner of South and Head of Agribusiness, Neil leads over 100 staff with a focus on delivering absolute value and expertise to clients. He has 20 years experience in accounting and advisory services, particularly agriculture, manufacturing, estate & succession planning, corporate finance, business advisory, accounting, fishing, building and construction.

Scott Mason

Managing Partner of Taxation Advisory

As the Managing Partner of Taxation Advisory, Scott leads the 100 plus Crowe Horwath tax specialists across Australasia as the preeminent national tax consulting practice in the owner managed/HNWI (High Net Wealth Individual) market. He is also a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountant’s Tax Advisory Group

Steve Alexander

Senior Partner – Hawke’s Bay

Steve specialises in business advice, valuations and negotiations for SME clients, working across a variety of industries. Steve is proactive and ensures his clients’ business structures are tax efficient assets are protected and opportunities to grow wealth are explored.

 

Phil Sinclair

Senior Partner

Phil has over 25 years assurance experience. Phil is primarily involved in the provision of assurance related services, ranging from financial statement audits to internal audit assignments. He is also an Approved Auditor for the Office of the Auditor-General for public sector financial statement audits. Phil currently overseas the provision of internal audit services to a number of public sector and corporate clients.
